Ellen McCall Miller, 86, of Charlotte passed away on April 17, 2014. She was born in Charlotte on November 16, 1927 to Van and Cora McCall. In 1949 after college graduation, Ellen joined the Navy, one of the first two Navy Waves to join from Charlotte Mecklenburg. This is where she met her future husband, John Miller whom she married in 1952. After 4 years in the Navy, the newlyweds moved to Charlotte and started their family. “Miss Ellie” worked many years with the Immigration and Naturalization Department. After her retirement, she enjoyed genealogy, reading - especially historical novels and western movies. She loved her cats and had a sweet tooth, especially for anything made with coconut. Ellen also loved going to auctions and collecting antiques. Affectionately called “Buddo” by her siblings, she will be deeply missed.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Van and Cora McCall; siblings, Marguerite Rose Tucker, Van McCall and Evelyn Williams.
Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John Miller; 3 children, Ellen (Charles) Frank, John A. Miller and Cora Miller; grandchildren, Rebecca Frank and Tracy (Josh) Frank Gabriel; siblings, Fred McCall, Doris (Raymond) Herbst and her twin sister Helen (Tom) Rhyne.
The family would like to express our appreciation to the nursing staff and aides on the rehab wing of Pineville Rehabilitation & Living Center for the kindness and compassion they provided during these final weeks.
A graveside service will be held Monday April 21 at 9:30 am at Sharon Presbyterian Church Cemetery 5201 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
