Chip was a retiree of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where he spent 17 years. Prior to his services there, he was with Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control.
He loved God, hunting, fishing, cooking, and spending quality time with his family and friends. There were hours of conversations out on the front porch and many trips out to dinner; visiting with the grandkids teaching them one of the hundreds of recipes he had. Chip made sure they knew stories of their ancestors and who they were. He was loved by all those he touched and will be deeply missed.
His surviving family members include, his son Matthew Christenbury (Angie), daughter Krystal Christenbury (Dennis "Bo" McIver) and daughters Selena Christenbury and Alicia Christenbury; thirteen grandchildren Claire-Lynn Christenbury, Allison Christenbury, Mary Christenbury, Dennis McIver Jr., Elijah Walker, La'shon Walker, Preston Flores, AJ Flores, Christa Flores, Stephen Atkinson (Selena), Asia Phommabouth, Lea Phommabouth and Jacob Phommabouth; five great grandchildren Jaxson Luckey, Italii Flores, Layla Battle, Justice Terry and Aliza Flores; mother Edith Efird of Durham; former wife and mother of his four children Esperanza "Cookie" Basaldua; sisters Sheila Trace, Christine Gracia (Mark Gracia), Lynda Morse (Gene Morse) and Elisa E Turner (Jeff) and brother Mack Christenbury. Chip also leaves behind his loyal German shepherd of 12 years, Sage.
