

Mr. Kales, 87, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011.
Mr. Kales was born April 2, 1924 in Greenville, SC, the son of the late C. A. (Gus) and Sarah Rushing Kales. Following graduation from Central High School in Charlotte in 1942, Mr. Kales entered military service in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Sergeant. His military career spanned more than twenty years and three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
A member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Mr. Kales is also remembered for his gentle and soft-spoken manner, his love of reading, working crossword puzzles and playing bingo.
Survivors include his son, Glenn Ernest Kales and daughter-in-law, Nancy Kales; and his son-in-law, Mike Neilson. He was lovingly known as “Binky” to his grandchildren, Joshua Neilson, and Tammy Aldinger and her husband, Michael; and great grandchildren, Kameron Kales, Holden Kales and Michael Aldinger. He is also survived by his granddaughter-in-law, Tonya Kales.
Mr. Kales was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Tracy Neilson; and a grandson, Klay Kales.
A service to celebrate Mr. Kales’ life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Christ Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Stephen Ratliff officiating. Mr. Kales’ family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
