

Ernest Stroupe, 93, of Indian Land, SC, died at his residence on Friday, May 28, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and wonderful friend to all that knew him.
He was born on June 16, 1916 on Gaffney, SC to Napoleon and Talluluh Davis Stroupe. He was a US Army Para Trouper in WW II and was active in the European Theatre while serving. After the war he was primarily a Project Manager for construction companies one of which was McDevitt & Street in the local area. Ernest loved to play golf and was a member of the Carmel County Club in Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice Stroupe of Indian Land, SC; a daughter Brenda Smith and husband James of Hilton Head, SC; step-children Paul Collins and his wife Marcia of Charlotte, Rev. James Collins of Newton, NC, Peggy Collins of Boiling Springs, NC, Joan Garrison and husband Craig of Chesterfield, VA, Edward Collins and wife Sarah of Mooresville, NC, Darby Fitzpatrick and husband James of Reston, VA and Brian Collins and wife Angela of Cedar Hill, TX; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC with Father James Collins, Celebrant and Father John Giuliani Concelebrant. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. Inurment in the St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church Columbarium will follow at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Carolinas Medical Center- Pineville for the excellent care and attention they gave Mr. Stroupe during his illness.
