A well-known square dance caller, Eugene was born in Laurinburg, NC, the son of the late Robert L. Stone and Lottie Nealy Stone. He was a veteran of WWII, and recipient of a Purple Heart, serving with the US Army 405th Infantry in Central Europe. Following his military service, he worked as a printing press operator retiring from Rexham Printing.
Eugene had a great love for the outdoors which included hunting, fishing and gardening.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Dorothy Stone and his daughter, Sara Stone McKee and five siblings.
Survivors include his grandchildren, Angela Erwin and her husband, Wayne of Stanley, NC, Adam McKee and his wife, Lisa of Kannapolis, NC and Aaron McKee of Booneville, NC; and four great grandchildren, Sara, Haley, Carmen and Ethan.
Funeral services are planned for 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am to 1 pm at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Honors will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd., Mint Hill, NC 28227
