Eva Lee Turner

She was born on October 13, 1916 the daughter of the late George and Arrilla Holmes of Marshville, North Carolina, the youngest of twelve children and was the last survivor. She had been a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church since 1941, where she served on many committees: Finance Committee, Pastor Search Committee and Renovation Committee. She was a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class, and served as Class President many times. She also served as Devotional Chairman of the Young –At-Heart Club and was a member of the Jubilee Band. She attended Marshville High School (Graduating Class of 1934) and Wingate College, and was Past Matron of the Eastern Star.

Ms. Turner is survived by two sons, Ronnie Turner and wife Maxine, Rick Turner and wife Carolyn all of Matthews, NC; one daughter, Laina Hicks and husband Eddie of Destin, Florida; four grandsons, Chuck Turner and wife Selena, Jeff Turner and wife Judy, Chris Turner, and Jonathan Turner and wife Aften; Two granddaughters, Jennifer Baucom and husband Randy and Kim Ross. Surviving also are eight great-grandchildren, Kory Ross, Luke and Layton Turner, Zachary, Spencer and Hillary Turner, Moriah and Joseph Baucom, and Samantha Turner and many nieces and nephews. Eva Lee was married to her husband Richard in 1938. They shared fifty-four wonderful years together. Richard preceded her in death in 1992.

A service to celebrate the life of Eva Lee Holmes Turner will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
