Ms. Ross was born September 4th, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, to her beloved parents, Dora Seaver Rubin and Julius Rubin. She was the youngest of their four daughters, and from birth, sang and danced her way into their hearts and on stages around the world.
She proudly served in the Women’s Army Corps in World War II during active wartime. She entertained the injured troops coming home and the soldiers going to fight, sailing back and forth the Atlantic Ocean on transport ships in dangerous waters. Florence met her husband Arthur in the service at a dance for enlisted personnel, and they were married in their uniforms.
After the war ended, they returned to New York City to work for Arthur Murray as professional ballroom dance teachers, and danced competitively as well. Together they opened dance studios in Ohio for the Murrays before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana, where they raised their daughter.
Ms. Ross moved to South Florida in 1972 where she began a career working in the travel industry. She became a world traveler and further developed her lifelong love of cultures and languages.
A prolific writer and poet, Ms. Ross’ beautiful words will endure and be treasured by her fans and family.
In 2011, she moved to Charlotte, NC, to be closer to her daughter. Ms. Ross will be loved and missed by her daughter and son-in-law of Charlotte, NC, and her grandson of New York City.
A service by the graveside will be held at 2 pm Monday, November 12, 2012 at Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Avenue, Charlotte, with Rabbi Morton Kaplan officiating.
