Frances Broome, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. She was born to the late Frank Rogers Sr. and Frances Yandell in Charlotte, NC on July 19, 1950. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Rogers, and her husband, Steve Broome.
She is survived by her brother, Frank and his wife Yohonna, and her three nephews, Eric, Jason and Jeremy.
Her family was always important to her and she was a daddy’s girl for sure. She grew up in Charlotte and faithfully attended Matthews Presbyterian Church with her family, aunts, uncles and cousins. Church and her love of God always were first in her life. In elementary school she learned many Bible verses and earned enough rewards to attend the Children’s Bible Mission camp. She never forgot CBM and kept in contact with the ministry throughout her life.
Frances was a graduate of East Mecklenburg HS class of 1969. She went on to ASU and Winthrop Universities where she studied accounting and received her advance degrees.
Upon graduation from ASU, she went to work at Duke Energy as an internal auditor where she met her future husband, Steve Broome, and made many more lifelong friends.
Life wasn’t always easy for Frances. She was diagnosed with Scoliosis at an early age. Life changed for her, but she learned to cope. Frances found hobbies and activities she could still enjoy doing with her childhood friends and the friends she made at work. She enjoyed doing cross stitching, learning to paint and numerous other hobbies. Her health hit her again in 1990, when she was diagnosed with MS. She didn’t let her health ever bend her faith in God, nor keep her from her friends. She served as President for Virginia Asher Ministries for Women among being involved in numerous other organizations.
MS eventually took over her body. Frances was an avid reader and often filled her days by reading and living through her books. She eventually only had use of her hand and some movement in her arm. This then confined her to an electric wheelchair which she operated with the precision of a race car driver. She couldn’t travel far because of conditions caused by her MS but she loved to eat out and go to local stores so she could see people and enjoy her day. Her husband Steve, helped her many healthcare people take care of her until his death in 2021.
There have been so many caregivers, friends and neighbors that helped her over the years and she was so grateful for them. Her mind remained sharp and she took pride in being able to do somethings on her own. She was especially grateful for Melissa, Crystal and Sara who were there for her until her final days, just liked they promised.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the MS Society, Matthews Presbyterian Church, Seaside United Methodist Church at Sunset Beach, NC or Children’s Bible Ministries , 9927 Falls of the Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27614, would be welcomed.
