She was born on the 26th of May, 1927 in Rock Hill, SC, the second oldest of four children to the late Arthur Lee Huckabee and Bertha Kennington Huckabee.
Frances was a resident at The Pines for 17 years, enjoying her independent living.
She proudly began her career in clerical work as a typist at the FBI in Washington, D.C., during the latter part of World War II. Returning to North Carolina, she held positions with the Charlotte Observer newspaper, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.
Upon retirement, she and her beloved husband Maxie spent many wonderful years traveling in their motor home throughout the Southeast United States.
Her greatest joy, though, was her family and time spent with them. Of particular delight was her role as “Granny” to her two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Even though her last years were very challenging with dementia, her strong faith in the Lord remained. Prayers, devotionals, and hymn singing were all favorites and true blessings. Mercifully, her quick smiles and laughter endured as well, blessing her and her caregivers.
The family will hold a memorial service 2:00 PM Saturday, the 28th of October, 2023 in the chapel of Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 S. Main St., Davidson, NC 28036. The Cassidy family will greet friends immediately following the service at the Chapel. A private family burial was held at Forest Lawn West Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Saturday, the 28th of October, 2023 where she was laid to rest next to her beloved Maxie.
She is survived her only daughter, Mary Cassidy Deal of Wilmington, NC; her two grandchildren: David A. Deal, Jr. and wife, Janessa K. Cobb of Washington, DC and Suzanne Deal Miller and husband, Christopher G. Miller of Sherrills Ford, NC; four great grandchildren: Ethan C. Deal, Sarah C. Deal, Caroline M. Miller and Collin G. Miller and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie Cassidy.
