Francis William Moss Jr.

Francis was raised on Long Island New York. He graduated from Lafayette College with a degree in Engineering. Upon graduating, Francis married his high school sweetheart Joan and moved to Seaford Delaware working for DuPont Corporation. Francis then fulfilled his ROTC commitment and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed in France joined by his wife Joan and baby Scott. Newlyweds Joan and Fran traveled extensively throughout Europe over the next two years. Francis left the army joining Inmont Corporation as an Industrial Engineer and progressed into positions of increasing responsibilities over the next 35 years, retiring as General Manager for BASF Printing Inks Division in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Francis is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan Dorothy Moss and his three children, Scott Moss and daughter-in-law Gail, Bruce Moss and daughter-in-law Lori, and Alison Walker and son-in-law Trey. He has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Francis was preceded in death by his sons, Patrick and Jeffrey.

Francis played college lacrosse, track, as well as college and semi pro basketball. His love of sports continued as a coach for his son's baseball, basketball, and lacrosse teams. Francis was also an avid golfer.

Francis loved to travel with Joan and with dear friends. His yearly family trips to Hilton Head Island with his children and grandchildren were very special to him.

Francis was a member of the Carmel Presbyterian Church, Carmel Country Club and volunteered seven years at the Wachovia golf tournament at Quail Hollow Country Club.

The service to honor the life of Francis William Moss Junior will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, in the chapel of Harry & Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, with Reverend Dr. Bill Wood of Carmel Presbyterian Church officiating. Military Honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be private.
