Gerald “Keith” Boyter was born in Spartanburg County on July 15, 1948, to Ben “Henry” Boyter and Edith Boyter. After graduating from Chapman High School, where he also worked as a school bus driver, he went on to graduate as valedictorian of his class at Spartanburg Technical College, where he was recruited by IBM.
Thirteen days after beginning his new career, he married the love of his life, Vicki Arline Denton, on June 15, 1968.
Shortly thereafter, he served in the Navy for six years during the Vietnam War, where he and Vicki lived in both Panama and Washington, D.C. during some of the most tumultuous times in US history.
He spent an impressive 53 years with IBM, “retiring” in 2018 after his 50th anniversary and then returning for another 3.
He and Vicki have been active members at Mount Harmony Baptist Church since 1993, where he served as a lead sound technician and deacon. His love of Christ was evident in everything he did, often behind the scenes, and expecting no recognition or accolades.
He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Vicki Boyter, his daughter, Melanie Weaver and her husband Joey, sister Kaye Rollins and her husband Keith, nephew Jonathan Rollins and his wife Deana, nephew Jason Rollins and his wife Leah, five great nephews, and countless cousins.
