Gordon Bernard Diggs, lovingly known as Joe, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on February 26, 1941, in the same city, Joe lived a life filled with love, laughter, and profound connections.
He was the cherished son of Andrew Soloman Diggs and Pauline Evelyn Norment Diggs, who instilled in him the values of kindness, humor, and intelligence that would define his character. Joe graduated from Central High School and furthered his education at Central Piedmont Community College, where he laid a foundation for a life of curiosity and learning.
Joe’s professional journey took him to Eastern Airlines, where he served as an expeditor. His work ethic and dedication earned him the respect of his colleagues and made a lasting impact on the company.
Throughout his life, Joe was known for his caring nature and sharp wit. He had a passion for sports in his younger days, later developing a love for golfing as he embraced the joys of retirement.
An avid reader, he often found solace in the pages of books and enjoyed the challenge of crosswords. In his leisure time, Joe could be found indulging in his fondness for classic westerns and British comedies, often accompanied by the timeless melodies of The Beatles. However, it was the time spent with his family that brought him the greatest joy.
Above all, Joe was defined by his love for family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy, and their three children: John (Melinda), Andy, and Lisa (John). He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Erin, Anna, Abby, Ashley, Bailey, and Christopher, as well as a great-grandfather to Madeline, Olivia, and Charlie. Each moment spent with his family filled his heart with happiness, and he cherished every gathering, every laugh, and every shared story.
A memorial service to celebrate Joe's remarkable life will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 4:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a man whose influence touched many lives and whose spirit will forever remain a part of our community.
In loving memory of Gordon Bernard Diggs, may he rest in peace knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
