

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Eddings Hamrick, 91 of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025. Gwen was born in Camden, South Carolina on April 14, 1933, to the late James Clyde and Ruth Hatfield Eddings. During childhood, she was known as ‘Faye Gwen’ but in later years was ‘Gwen’ and ‘Nana.’ Gwen attended Woman’s College (now known as UNC-Greensboro) and graduated in 1953. During a short secretarial career, she married Byron in 1955, and they soon started a family, sharing many adventures and joys. She was a member and officer of the Professional Engineers of NC Auxiliary- Piedmont Chapter and as a member of Park Road Baptist Church was active in the choir, teaching Sunday School and playing the piano for the children.
She lived a full life as an amazing and loving family matriarch and ‘Nana’. Gwen enjoyed spending time with her family, neighbors and friends, and her social life included many bridge clubs, mahjong, and spending vacation time at Ocean Isle Beach, Lake Wylie and Beech Mountain. Gwen loved playing games, especially card games and board games with her family and her grandchildren. She and Byron also enjoyed traveling with friends to Mexico, England, Germany and Alaska.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, Byron Alcy Hamrick, Jr., to whom she was married for 47 years. Gwen leaves to cherish her loving memories, her children: Michael Stephen Hamrick, LuAnn Hamrick Caudle (John), and Susan Elizabeth Hamrick; grandchildren Brandon Michael Hamrick, Adam Steele Hamrick, Chase Daniel Hamrick (Erin), Natalie Caudle McRorie (Josh) and Laura Caudle Crouse (Keith), and great-grandchildren Audrey Faye McRorie, Makenzie Elizabeth McRorie, Luke Harrison Crouse and Titus Apollo Hamrick; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Following a private burial, a Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209. The service will be streamed at: https://www.facebook.com/parkroadchurch. Memorials may be made to Park Road Baptist Church or to the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org. The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the caregivers at Waltonwood-Cotswold and Sanctuary-Bismark for their compassion and care. ‘Our loss is Heaven’s gain.’
