

After graduating from Central High School in 1942, Harry enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served as a pilot until the end of WWII. Afterwards he attended UNC Chapel Hill. He then was recalled to serve in the Korean War in 1951. Later he served with the Air National Guard fighter wing in Charlotte flying the P51 Mustang.
After resigning his commission at the end of the Korean War and obtaining the rank of Captain, Harry returned to Charlotte to provide his valuable expertise for the family business, Acme Plumbing and Supplies, Inc. for thirty years.
Harry was a member at Memorial United Methodist Church for over twenty years and also attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church for many years. In addition, he was a Master Mason in Phalanx Lodge 31 for over 60 years. This is another member of the quickly diminishing greatest generation departing this world to meet his Savior Jesus Christ.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary Thomas Rice; sons Ronnie (Janet) Rice of Mint Hill, NC and Tom Rice of Jacksonville, NC; daughter Jody (Tom) Kwasnik of Indian Trail, NC; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at McEwen Funeral Service on Thursday, March 7, 2019 beginning at 1:00pm. A Graveside Service will follow at 2pm at Sharon Memorial Park. Friends and family are welcomed to their home following the services at 1726 Lumarka Drive, Charlotte.
