Hazel R. Helms, age 91 went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2016. She was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church and had taught a lady's Sunday School class for 18 years. Mrs. Helms is preceded in death by her son, David Helms; two sisters, Laurie Sharpe and Margaret Ann McCuestin. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 72 years, Robert A. Helms who referred to Hazel as " the love of his life"; sons, Jerry S. Helms (Sylvia) and Mike Helms (Lisa); 6 grandchildren; and niece, Kay Roberts (Chuck). The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte NC 28212, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment in Sharon Memorial Park immediately following. Friends who wish to visit Robert may do so at The Haven at Highland Creek, 5920 McCheasney Drive, Charlotte NC 28269 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte at 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte NC 28204.
