Hazelene was born October 15, 1928 in Lancaster County, SC to parents Hazel and Minnie Lee Criminger, and grew up in Heath Springs, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Jesse “Hap” Truesdale, and her brother James Crimminger.
Hazelene fiercely adored her family and friends, and loved cooking, crocheting, gardening, and buttons, as was seen when assisting with her Columbia home renovations. She rarely sat still and loved taking care of others, treasuring her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a vivacious personality with a huge stubborn streak, often telling her opinion even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. Hazelene hated planning and demonstrated this in her final moments by passing just 15 minutes before a planning meeting with the funeral home. Despite her southern sass, she had the kindest heart and the best hugs and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Hazelene is survived by her two children and their spouses LaBree (Marty) Truesdale and Debbie (Randy) Bullard; grandchildren, Jennifer Truesdale, Travis Truesdale, Moira Bullard, Erin Bullard, Monika (Eric) Wolfe, and Satya (John) Dunne; great grandchildren Erin Wolfe and Rowan Dunne; sisters Josie Adams and Ozell Hunter; sister-in-law Mildred Crimminger; all Criminger and Truesdale nieces, nephews, and their families; as well as her love of red sweaters and black pants, which seems to be a Criminger family trait.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 11am, at Celestial Memorial Cemetery, 3111 Delree St., W. Columbia, SC 29170 led by her niece Carolyn’s husband Jim Doty.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region at https://www.hpccr.org/give, who helped to make Hazelene’s last months as comfortable and easy as possible.
