Helen Jane Bailey

Miss Helen Jane Bailey, of Charlotte, was born on January 13, 1917, and died on June 4, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Union County, NC to Willie B. and George L. Bailey. The family moved to Charlotte, where Miss Bailey attended Elizabeth, Piedmont and Central High Schools. She attended Queens College and was later employed by Duke Power, where she was a loyal employee for over 45 years as a workers compensation claim agent.

Helen was a devoted daughter who nursed her parents through extended illnesses. She was a longtime member of Myers Park Baptist Church and always thought of herself as a member of “The Young Adult Class”.

Travel, good friends and a fun party were delights for her, and kept her young in spirit until she developed Alzheimer’s.

She is survived by her cousins, JoAnne Miller Gaede (Nick) of Birmingham, AL, Sara Schreiner (Charlie) of Lady Island, SC and Henry McBride (Lolla) of Harrisonburg, VA.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
