Helen was a sister, an aunt, a friend, chosen family to many, and mom to furbaby Fergus MacDuff. She had an infectious laugh, loved her Harris Teeter coffee klatch, and always made sure she was home in time for Happy Hour.
Helen grew up in New Jersey and became a Registered Nurse, helping veterans, newborns, and others who entrusted her with their care. She loved witnessing patients get better – believing it to be the best part of her work – and Helen persisted in her calling until she retired in the early 2000s.
For a summer in the latter 1900s, Helen and husband Robert “Bob” Bergeron briefly sampled [human] parenthood by caring for nieces Cyndy and Kate. “The girls” do not take too much offense that Helen and Bob’s children were thereafter exclusively canine, beginning with beloved Scottish terrier Bonnie.
Helen loved music, hummed frequently, and celebrated each sunup by looking in the mirror and cheering, “Good morning, Gorgeous! What are we going to do today?” She had great taste in décor and was riveted by home makeover shows.
Helen died in her sleep after a courageous second battle with cancer. Her ashes will join her husband Bob’s at Evergreen Washelli in Seattle, Washington. Helen was also predeceased by mother Katie Clara, estranged father Tom, older sister Jackie, nephew Juny, nephew-in-law Jimmy, and great-great nephew Anthony. Surviving Helen’s passing are her younger sister Peggy, nieces Cyndy, Kate, and Lynn, nephew-in-law Chris by Kate’s marriage, great-nieces and great-nephews Troy, Jack-Jack, Tony, and Shelly, and Shelly’s sons James and Jaden.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Helen Bergeron at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 238 Fort Mill Hwy, Fort Mill, SC 29707.
