

Helen Alexander Blackwelder, 92, of Charlotte went to be with the Lord, February 23, 2016 at The Solace Center in Asheville, NC. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm Friday, February 26, 2016 in The Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West with Reverend Gene Boatwright officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00pm.
Helen was born on May 19, 1923 in Rowan County, NC and was daughter of the late Clarence Eugene and Ethel Poteat Alexander.
She was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and an active member all her life. She graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in Kannapolis. She worked at Cannon Mills and also as a billing clerk for Central Motor Lines. Helen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed travelling and attended and supported the various activities in which her grandchildren were involved.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Fred Murray Blackwelder who passed away November 20, 2006. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Coleen Alexander Furchess and brother Leonard Alexander.
She is survived by her children, Fred Dennis Blackwelder (Jeannie) of Weaverville, NC, Jerry Eugene Blackwelder of Raleigh, NC and Randy Lee Blackwelder of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Allyson Blackwelder Krehbiel of Clayton, NC, Derek Parker Blackwelder (Amy) of Raleigh, NC, Ashley Blackwelder of Fuquary Varina, NC, Nikki Blackwelder Frommel (Ryan) of Asheville, four great grandchildren, Calysta and Christian Krehbiel of Clayton, NC and Westin and Asher Frommel of Asheville, NC; two brothers, Troy Eugene Alexander of Albemarle, NC and Bob Alexander (Lib) of Wilmington, NC.
