Chuck was born in Charlotte, NC on June 7, 1950, to the late W. Aubrey and Eva J. Federal.
After graduating from Charlotte Catholic High School, Chuck joined the Navy. From there Chuck worked in many fields including Sales of exotic Hardwood doors followed by Fertilizer sales for a company in Dallas, TX. He also worked in the restaurant arena managing the Inn and Restaurant at High Meadows in Roaring Gap, NC. Then he transitioned into IT work at Wachovia Bank. He was a researcher at heart and was able to give great detail to everything he did.
For many, work is what defines a person but not Chuck. His love for his friends and family - his community - defined him and was most important to Chuck. He had many lifelong friends of more than 60 years. This quote by Giannis Delimitsos defines Chuck: “True friendship is the greatest wealth man can possess and one of his rarest and most valuable assets.”
There are two standout events Chuck loved beyond measure, The Comet Orphans Thanksgiving and the Federal Clan St Patrick’s Day festivities. Chuck started Comet Orphans Thanksgiving years ago and it grows every year gathering friends, old and new, together to celebrate and give thanks for their friendships. In addition, they would feed people who would otherwise not have Thanksgiving. The second was the Federal Clan St Patrick’s Day Parade float, started by his late cousin, Mark Federal. This was an endeavor he worked on from the start. He helped in securing the flatbed, and each year he spent many hours assisting decorating the float. He watched this event grow each year. It brought him great joy seeing the extended family join together along with friends to make this float the BEST of the parade year after year. You could always spot him with in his green tails, top hat, green glitter shoes and of course his shillelagh! It was all about Love. He was a great guy!
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents W. Aubrey and Eva J Federal and his younger brother Henry Lewis Federal (Hank). He is survived by sisters Peggy Supinski (Dick), Miriam Nicklaus (Randy) and brothers Aubrey (Bill) Federal (Gaby) and Brian Federal (Tara) and sister-in-law Jan Guiton Federal (wife of Hank). Nieces and Nephews Stefan Supinski (Tess), Meredith Okie (Alan), Bill Supinski, Natalie Newhouse (Wes and children), Billy Federal, John Federal (Andi and children), Alex Federal (Tiz and children) Anna Brannon (David) and Aubrey Nicklaus.
A celebration of life for Chuck will be held Friday, February 6th at 6pm at Comet Grill and will last into the evening with family, friends and live music. 2224 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28203.
