He was born in So. Boston, VA, June 22, 1929, to the late Howard Taft Hall and Emma Chappell Hall. He moved to Westchester County, NY, at the age of 7, residing there for 63 years, 42 of those years in Elmsford. He was entrepreneur and President of HHH Auto Body, Inc., Elmsford, NY, for 28 years, working long hours, sometimes seven day a week, retiring in 1993.
Howard married the love of his life, Jessie, 60 years ago this past June. Their union produced three children, Howard, Jr., Vanessa, and David.
A great husband and father, providing for his family was his priority.
A proud and God-fearing man, he was an active member of St. Francis & St. Martha’s Episcopal Church in White Plains, NY, a U.S. Navy Veteran, President of the Elmsford Civic League, served on the County Housing Board, Cub Scout leader, avid golfer, just to name a few. He was a believer in helping those in his community, employing several of the young men in the neighborhood, having fixed countless dents and twisted metal to thousands of cars driven by friends and others in the community. When it was time for laughter, he would start out with a chuckle and end up with tears streaming down his face (and ours, too, laughing at him laugh) with our stomachs hurting from all the laughter.
Words to describe him include supportive, provider, industrious, hard-working, persistent, responsible, accountable, economical, rational, a disciplinarian, serious, and trustful (but no fool.) He was traditional, prideful, and a role-model. He was respectful, caring, empathetic, generous, humble and emotional. Yet light-hearted, humorous, playful, and gregarious. But most of all he was the Golden-Rule Doer.
Howard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jessie P. Wiggins Hall; his sister, Marion Pedrow of White Plains, NY; sons, Howard, Jr. and wife Vivian of West Orange, NJ, and David and wife Tia of Durham, NC; daughter, Vanessa of Laguna Niguel, CA; six grandchildren, Candice, Kimani, Khari, Anika, John, Lance; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. His brother, Lorenzo, sister, Delores, and infant sister, Robertha, predeceased him.
He will be missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. But it is comforting to know that he is with Our Heavenly Father in Eternal Life. No pain, no suffering... God’s joy and happiness. May he Rest In Paradise.
