Dr. Ifeoma Ada Kalu was born to the late Jacob Menakaya and Victoria Menakaya on February 19th, 1942. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023.
Dr. Ifeoma Uzor Kalu, former First Lady of Abia State, is not widely known for her work as a banker. However, she worked in the banking sector, prior to her humanitarian and political activities. She began her career in banking after obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She worked with several banks in Nigeria including the United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Diamond Bank (now Access Bank). During her time in the banking sector, she gained valuable experience in finance and management, which later proved useful in her philanthropic and political endeavors. Her banking career was largely overshadowed by her humanitarian work, but her background in finance played a significant role in her ability to effectively manager her Ifeoma Kalu Foundation and carry out her various philanthropic projects.
Ifeoma leaves to cherish her memories a husband Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, daughters Ogbonneya (Neya) Uzor-Kalu of Lagos Nigeria and Ezinne (Zina) Uzor-Kalu of Abuja Nigeria, grandson Joshua Kalu-Iyere, siblings Chief Nwibe Menakaya, Billy Menakaya (deceased), Dr. Eloka Menakaya, Mr. Ufondu Menakaya, Mr. Ikechukwu Menakaya, Mr. Bob Menakaya, Chief Mrs. Ngozi Nnaedozie, Ebele Ebo, Ijeoma Egonu (deceased) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and life-long friends.
