Jack, 85, died peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2015 surrounded by his family. At the time of his death, he lived on Oak Island with his son and daughter-in-law who lovingly cared for him the past two years.
The son of the late Nina Green Everidge and the late Jesse Lee Everidge, he was born in Charlotte on September 24, 1929. Jack married his childhood sweetheart, Peggy, and was blessed with 61 years of marriage before her death in 2012. They loved roller skating and bowling in their early years, and he loved to fish and play golf until his health declined.
Jack loved his family dearly. As a devoted father and grandfather, he attended school, church, and sports activities showing his deep love and support. In walking through life with us, he brought strength and wisdom in his gentle way. This last season of life, he taught us how to suffer well.
His love for the Lord was evident in many ways. For 60 years, he found great joy as a servant leader at Midwood Baptist Church, where he faithfully loved and cared for many generations, standing firm with compassion in his convictions.
As a man of humility, integrity, and loyalty, Jack worked for one company, Rexham, where he retired after 46 years of service.
Left to cherish his memory and legacy are his daughter, Rhonda Rhino and husband, Danny of Charlotte; his son, Brent, and wife, Debbie of Oak Island, NC; grandchildren, Mikal Rhino and wife, Alyson of Wake Forest, NC; Caty McCoy and husband, Patrick of Charlotte; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Phoebe, and Graham Rhino, Jack McCoy, and another great-grandson due very soon; brother-in-law, Sonny; special nieces, Sonya Hill and son, and Kristie Presten and family. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Jesse Everidge.
In this time of great sorrow, the family would like to express deep gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for the love, prayers, care, and concern received from many gracious people that have touched our lives. We appreciate Dr. Michael Friedland, Dr. David Smith, Dr. Steven Dibert, and Dr. John Storey and staff for their compassion and fine medical care.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 8, at Midwood Baptist Church, 2029 Mecklenburg Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials to Midwood Baptist Church.
