A native of Brooklyn, NY, Jackie was born to the late Saul and Anna Traven on December 31, 1942. She graduated from Clara Barton High School in 1960. Jackie loved to take care of children and she was licensed in childcare working with children for 15 years. After her career in childcare, she worked her way up to Assistant Manager at the local bowling alley. While working at the bowling alley, in her refusal to give up a food freezer, Jackie almost prevented Michael Jordan from buying the Charlotte Hornets. Also, while she was Assistant Manager of the bowling alley (other than his mother and possibly his wife) Jackie was the only woman to yell at Steph Curry at a bowling birthday party!
Jackie loved to take cruises and enjoyed searching for relatives on Ancestry.com. She liked watching the Hallmark Channel, soap operas, was a culinary perfectionist and loved preparing a big Christmas meal to share with family and friends. Jackie was a forthright person, very friendly and loved to start conversations with strangers. She enjoyed certain indulgences in life but would only eat fish if it didn’t taste like fish and she felt having turkey once a year was too often!
Jackie is survived by her sons Irv, David and William Weinstein and by two grandsons, Zachary and Jared Weinstein. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Weinstein.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Thursday, October 30, 2025 in the chapel at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte with Reverend Ron Helms officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Jackie will be remembered most for her brash New York attitude, telling stories of her life in New York City and relishing her role as secretary of the bowling league.
