Doug, 58, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 after a long battle with various illnesses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Waylon and Lela Bridges; brother, Eugene Bridges; and sister, Patricia Prince – now all back together in Heaven.
Doug was a great friend to all. In his earlier years, he enjoyed go-cart racing. However, one of his greatest joys was fishing. We will long remember the sight of him driving down the road with his moped stacked with fishing equipment.
Doug leaves to cherish his memories five nephews, two of the home years earlier, Jeff Powell and Rick Bridges; three nieces and many greats more. Most of all he leaves his best friend for the last months of his journey, his brother’s wife, Rosemary Bridges, who was with him until the very end.
Doug’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 17th from the graveside in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Tuesday at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home.
A special thank you goes out to the people of the Steele Creek Fire & Rescue Departments for the many times they assisted Doug during medical crises.
James Douglas Bridges closes a book of many tales of troubled life. Although Doug was sometimes troubled, he always found a way to be forgiven. Thank God! RIP, Wildman.
