James Richard Ferguson

Our family’s cornerstone James “Paw-Paw” Richard Ferguson, 84, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away and joined our heavenly Father on Thursday, December 10th, 2020 at Novant Health Hospice and Palliative Care, due to complications of the COVID-19 virus. James Richard was born on June 19th, 1936 to the late Walter Ferguson and Nora Huskey Ferguson of Richburg, South Carolina.

James was a dedicated member of Plaza Baptist Church for almost 30 years, faithfully serving as a Deacon and an active member of “The Pillars Group.” He also took pride in driving the church van for social events. At home, he was an avid gardener who consistently harvested more to give than he ever kept. When he wasn’t in the garden, you would still find him outdoors tending to his yard, tinkering on anything that needed to be repaired, visiting with neighbors, playing with his great-grandchildren, or listening to gospel blue grass music on his front porch swing, while missing his wife Cathy, who predeceased him in October of 2018.

He is survived by his two sisters, Sue Teasley and Jean Wood and husband William; daughters, Debbie Reynolds and husband Pete, and Donna Pigford and husband Eric; four grandchildren, Brandon Hines (U.S. Coast Guard) and wife Melinda, Patrick Hines (U.S. Coast Guard), Ashley Taylor and husband Brian, and Dylan Pigford and fiancée Heather; and three great-grandchildren, Jerzi, Corbin, Tucker, and two more tiny blessings to the family soon; and a host of Ferguson nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID restrictions and the family’s desire to stop the spread of this virus, there will be a private family service. The family invites you to join a Facebook live stream at 11am on December 23rd, 2020. The service will be officiated by the Reverend David A. Gales, and Interim Pastor Ed Smith. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC, at approximately 12:00 o’clock. Respectfully, we request that you wear a mask and socially distance. The family is served by McEwen Funeral Service.
