
Jim was born in Marion, North Carolina on April 6, 1948 to the late Paul and Annie Hoppes.
After graduating from Nebo High School, Jim joined the US Army and proudly served in the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country, he built a long and respected career as a land surveyor. Beginning in 1975, he dedicated 35 years to Don Allen Surveying, where he was known for his hard work, patience, and quiet nature.
Jim was a simple mountain man at heart who valued faith, music, and family. He was a devoted member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church. Jim had a deep love for bluegrass music, especially the Stanley Brothers. He enjoyed playing guitar, fiddle, and mandolin, sharing his love of music with those around him.
Those who knew Jim will remember him as a great man and a hardworking soul whose quiet presence left a lasting impression. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jim is survived by his brothers, Thomas Hoppes and Wayne Hoppes.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227, US, on May 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
