I was very little when he died. he was my grampa.  my mom told me he  would come to  our house just so he could hold me. I am the first of  ed largen's three children.

Wow...how time flies. And how we miss so much.

Betty and I just learned that Jimmy has started his new life. Seems like we were all just starting this one...

Although we have not spent time together in years...you two have always been in our hearts. As it will always be. Over the years we have talked with fondness about you two. And how we were going to call. You know how it goes.

No better friend have I had... than Jimmy.We had so much fun together at Carolina. My best and favorite memories. 

We love and miss you Mary Ann. You were always the strongest of us. We love and miss you Jimmy. You were the best of us.

Mary Ann and Family,
I was saddened to learn of Jimmy's passing. I knew both of you back in our days at Quail Hollow and South Meck. He was such a pleasant person, always smiling and meticulously dressed. He was one of the best. I would have anticipated him to grow up to be a good husband, father, and a man who loved and cared for his family. The photos are a testimony to that. I pray God's love will comfort you and your family.

Some of my best memories are from the stories I heard at the Largen's house growing up.  Mr. Largen delivered most of them with the skill of a gifted orator.  He brought joy to all those around him, and he left a lasting impression on his family, friends & anyone who met him.

Sorry to learn of Jimmy's death.  I was a member of that Carmel Road/Carmel Park neighborhood and remember Jimmy as Wick's little brother.  My sympathies to his family.

I am saddened to hear about Jim.  I don't think I was ever around Jim without having at least a chuckle, usually a good laugh. Do you remember the time you and I were recruited to help with the elementary divison in Sunday School, and there was a holiday party for the group at someone's home in Myers Park.  Jim didn't know the people we were teaching with but decided he would meet us at the party. It just so happened there were several parties on that street that night.  It was before cell phones, and we waited a long time for him. He showed up about an hour late and had gone to the wrong party.  He kept asking if anyone had seen us and finally decided he must be at the wrong party.  We laughed so hard, and he laughed the most.  The best part was that the people at the other party told him if he didn't find us to come on back.  Jim said he met a lot of nice people and they had great food.  Another favorite memory of his humor happened at Thanksgiving one year.  You two graciously had a crowd for Thanksgiving, and Jim talked Jimmy (who was very little) into greeting everyone with, "I am glad you came to Thanksgiving or else we would not have a turkey."  I don't know who delighted more in watching our faces as we realized the double entendre - Jim or Jimmy (who was too young to get the joke but liked it when the guests started laughing.)  Jim's great sense of humor and his kindness and helpful efforts will live on in the hearts and memories of many.  You, Ed and Jimmy and their families are in our thoughts.

To Mary Ann Largen and Family, I'm am deeply sorry for your loss. I knew Jim to be a great husband and father that raised two great sons in Ed and Jimmy. Again, I am very sorry for your loss and he will be missed.

Mary Ann, we were so sorry to see the obituary about Jim.  We are thinking of you and your family and sending prayers your way.  I always remember after we moved in next door, how Jim would come out and say to my boys in the front yard, "Hello, girls".  We always laughed about that.  He was a sweet guy.

Jimmy was my next door neighbor and "buddy-pal" from the time I can remember being able to walk back and forth (About 4 years old) to each other's houses in Carmel Park until we both graduated from South Mecklenburg High School and left home. We grew up in such a great neighborhood and the whole Largen family was such a blessing to our family and to my upbringing. Jimmy's parents, Ed and Kay were wonderful people and always welcomed me into their home, even when I know they probably thought I was being a little pest! Jimmy was all boy and was always sharing his "catches" from either the woods or the lakes.  Many times he came walking out of the trees with a snake wrapped around his neck. I remember the time he had an alligator in his bathtub and I thought that was so cool! He taught me how to handle snakes without being afraid of them. We caught lots of tadpoles and minnows in the creeks and chased hundreds of lightning bugs at night, catching them into small glass jars to use as "night lights" in our bedrooms later that evening.  I never wanted to go along on the night "missions" of frog-giggin', but Jimmy used to bring frogs legs to my mama and she would cook them up - "dancin' in the pan"!!!With all our other neighborhood buddies we used to have a crazy, fun (and mostly innocent) time. Jimmy could be a liitle mischeivious at times!  I do vividly remember his distinctive laugh. It was infectious.  As pre-teens I remember his skateboard creations and riding them down his driveway...also the fun times sledding after a great snow.  As a teenager Jimmy was always the perfect gentleman.
I remember when I injured my foot at about the age of 12 or 13 and it ended up getting infected and developed blood poisoning, so I was on crutches and not allowed to walk on it.  Jimmy had his little mini-bike and he put me on the back and took me all over the neighborhood to visit friends, or to the little neighborhood convenience store up on Carmel Road next to Charlotte Country Day. As we started Jr. High and High School our litte Carmel Park Gang began to meet new friends, have boyfriends and girlfriends and go in different directions, but we all kept that bond of friendship that nothing can ever destroy. Jimmy will ALWAYS be a part of a cherished time of growing up and will always be a great friend remembered. I'm very sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. I remember him and Mary Ann very well from high school. Jimmy was funny, smart and always smiling  and that smile of his just made you smile as well. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mary Ann and the rest of the family.

What to say...no words can express our sadness. Jimmy was one of a kind, the void he leaves behind is immense. One condolence for me is that I hear his voice and laugh in Ed and Jimmy- you are your father's sons.
