James Joseph Marek was born on March 27th 1939 in the greater Chicago area. He was one of four children, with his older brother Bryan, older sister Bonnie and twin sister Alice. As an older child he developed his lifelong work ethic by working whatever jobs he could find including caddying at the local golf course. His work as a caddy fostered his lifelong love of golf.
He graduated Hammond Tech High School in 1957 and soon after joined the Army for two years. After his time in the Army, he began work in sales selling cars and eventually real estate.
He married Lois Bowton in 1967 and they bought their first house in Glenwood Illinois. Soon after they welcomed their first child, Scott in 1970 and their second son Steve in 1973. By 1977 he grew tired of the harsh Chicago winters and relocated the family to Charlotte NC.
Once in Charlotte, he decided to leave sales and buy a print shop since he had some work experience in the field. He bought All Rite printing and soon after changed the name to J.M. Graphics. There his work ethic turned the small print shop into a thriving one that continues to this day. In 1993 his son Scott joined the company, which freed up enough time for him to return to his love of golf.
In addition to golf, Jim enjoyed wine, politics, long walks and most of all his love of reading. With encouragement from his friends, he also developed a love of travel and took many group vacations with friends and family.
Beyond his wife Lois, and sons Scott and Steve, Jim is survived by 4 Grandchildren…William, Stephanie, Cole and Vann Dutch as well as one Great Grandchild, Keithan.
