

Born March 1, 1935 in Sampson County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James Rockwell Rich and Joncilea Rich Grimes. He served his country as a U.S. Marine. He started his career as a printer, owning his own business in Greensboro, NC. In 1968, he went to work for NCNB, now known as Bank of America, and continued there for 30 years until his retirement.
Jim was a long time Little League baseball coach with Starclaire Athletic Association. He loved to fish, golf, travel and was an avid reader. In his later years, he enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets and Carolina Panthers. He loved to sit in his sunroom and enjoy his backyard wildlife habitat.
Jim is survived by his three children, Christy Rich of Concord, Brian Rich (Linda) of Charlotte and Suzanne Lancaster of Fort Mill. Three grandchildren, Heather Lasker (Jonny) of Tega Cay, Bonnie Ferguson (Jeremy) of Lake Wylie and Tyler Lancaster(Mary Kelley) of Jacksonville, Fl. Three great grandchildren Brandon Lasker, Bella and Jett Ferguson as well as his siblings, Bobby Grimes (Jubie) and Ann Kitchen (Steve) and many nieces and nephews. As well as his extended family, Skip Huddleston (Linda), Erik Davis (Nina), Bryce Davis, Allie, Jacob and Rhett Huddleston and two great grandchildren Ezra and Elise Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Rich; and his siblings Kenneth Rich, Lois Burgess and Tommy Grimes; and son-in-law, Jack Comstock.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022 at McEwen Funeral Service – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road. His family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be in Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews.
