She was born February 5, 1936, in Winchester, Virginia. Her parents were the Reverend Floyd Bost Lingle and Annie Elizabeth Cooper Lingle of Rowan County, North Carolina.
An educator, Jane earned degrees from East Carolina University and Winthrop University. She was employed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System for 36 years and served as a teacher and elementary school principal.
A lifelong ELCA Lutheran, Jane taught Bible Study and Sunday School classes for many years.
