Janet Earnheart Friedman, born on October 15, 1946, in Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at the Mecklenburg Health and Rehabilitation Center on February 27th at 11:11pm. She was the beloved daughter of Brice and Johnnie Mae Earnheart, sister to Donald Earnheart, and honored mother of David Friedman, her only son.
A woman of unparalleled faith and spiritual fortitude, love, and kindness, all who came into her orbit were forever changed. She was full of generosity, and unwavering in her pursuit of knowing the Lord. Whether she was walking the Great Wall of China, bartering with merchants in Lebanon, or going through the Chick-fil-A drive through in Pineville, she would spread God’s unconditional love and truth.
Her early career as a reservationist at Eastern Airlines’ Headquarters in Charlotte gave her the platform to fulfill her passion for global travel, which culminated in traversing three times around the globe, visiting countless countries in her lifetime.
She moved effortlessly among heads of states, intellectuals, recognized prophets, and all those in between where she was affectionately known as “Momma Friedman” and “the designated hugger!”
She was a devoted mother, raising David with an equally vigorous faith and the support of her community, and always pointing him to root his identity in relationship with His heavenly Father.
She was a spiritual force, always ready to bring joy to every situation. She faced adversity with a “garment of praise,” and made sure that all around her put on their spiritual armor daily.
Janet is survived by her loving son, David, his wife Maxine and their children Asher and Simone, and her brother Donald Earnheart.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. While David is her only physical son, she will also be remembered by hundreds of spiritual children, for whom she prayed daily, impacting the course of their lives.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday March 29th, 2025 starting with visitation at 10am ET followed by a Memorial Service at 11am ET in the Chapel at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2940 Commonwealth Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205.
The family asks that flowers or donations be sent to Resurrection Lutheran in Janet’s memory. For those that can not attend in-person, virtual access will be provided with a link through the church’s Facebook page announcement.
