She was born December 2, 1937 in Lincolnton, North Carolina to Minnie Ella Carpenter and John Vernon Houk. When she wasn’t serving the community she could be found at a Hornets game, skiing the slopes out West, or with her family. Every summer, she loved taking her grandchildren to Garden City Beach, where they spent long, happy days together by the ocean. Each fall, she looked forward to trips to the mountains to pick apples and take in the changing leaves. She also loved driving her friends around to explore new places, always ready for a little adventure and good company. She was blessed with a loving family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Wednesday, the 29th of October, 2025 at Thrift United Methodist Church, Moores Chapel Road. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary. Burial will be at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
