

Mrs. Cook, 83, of Athens, GA, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away on April 30, 2011 in Athens, Georgia. She was born on December 3, 1927 in Lewistown, Montana, a daughter of the late George Allen Jones and Cecily Elise Blackford Jones.
Joan was also predeceased by husbands, William Low Moore and Virgil Wellborn Cook.
She was raised in Tuscola, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and Spanish. Joan married Bill Moore of Chicago, Illinois that same year. She and Bill raised their four children in at least eight different homes until Bill’s death in 1969. Joan participated in garden clubs and bridge clubs throughout her life. She was a lifelong member and supporter of her sorority, Delta Gamma. Joan worked at Trexler World Travel in Charlotte and enjoyed travelling the world
Mrs. Cook is survived by her children, Deborah (Phil) Kincaid of Athens, GA, Douglas A. (Ellen) Moore of Lexington, SC, Dick (Gale) Moore of Columbia, TN, Diane (Rob) Pernell of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren Jennifer (Michael) Adams, Sarah (Isaac) Moore, Katherine Kincaid, Bill Moore, Matthew Moore, Brendan Moore, Courtney Moore, William Pernell, Michael Pernell and Lauren Pernell. Joan is also survived by her Brother Bill (Jean) Jones of Tuscola, Illinois and sister Georganna Bailey of Decatur, Illinois.
The service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Harry & Bryant Company, “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, with the Reverend Lisa Saunders officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:15 prior to the service at the funeral home.
