

John Patrick Connell, 84, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully at home on May 15 with his family at his side. He was born in Rutland VT to Charles and Dorothy L. Connell on April 22, 1928. He attended schools in Rutland and Troy, NY. John retired from the US Army after 28 years of service. John served during both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars as well as during times of peace. He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts, a meritorious service medal and honorary medal from the Vietnamese government as well as many other military awards.
John is predeceased by his daughter, Carleen Dudley; sisters, Carolyn and Mary and brothers, Jim and Donald. John is survived by his loving companion of 29 years, Donna Hickman; children, John (Marie) Connell and Leisha Connell; grandchildren, Michael Dudley, Dana Dudley Creel, Scott Murphy, Mark Burdette and Ryan Burdette; special granddaughter, Lauren Clayton; brother, Charles Connell and sister, Betty Jarvis.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 16 from 6 to 8 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 17 at 11 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 530 SC Hwy 274 Lake Wylie, SC 29710.
