John Cortell

A native of Beniali, Spain, Mr. Cortell was born to the late John Cortell and Carmen Portes Cortell on August 18, 1917. He was a veteran of the Spanish Army. Mr. Cortell has been a resident of Charlotte since 1983. He was a parishioner at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Charlotte. Mr. Cortell was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Vicenta Cortell on July 19, 2009.

Mr. Cortell is survived by his daughters, Lupe Grier and husband Robert of Charlotte, Nancy Rosenthal and husband Barry of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Jonathan Grier, Aaron Rosenthal, Jacqueline Grier and great-grandson, Tyler Roberts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00a.m., Monday, July 12 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with Reverend Patrick T. Hoare officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m., Sunday, July 11 at Wilson Funeral and Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd., Charlotte.
