

John Timothy Hartness, “Tim”, September 1942 - February 2012, resident of Charlotte NC, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 1, 2012. Tim was born in Chattanooga, TN and graduated from University of Dayton, Dayton Ohio. He held a Bachelors Degree in engineering with a specialty in Thermo Plastic Composites. He contributed to history as he helped discover and design materials used for spacecraft at NASA and materials for the transportation industry.
He was one of two children born to the late Roscoe and Marie Hartness and was a beloved husband and father. Tim will forever be remembered by his Loving Wife Karen York and devoted children: son, John Hartness and daughter Christine Boatwright, loving granddaughters, Lauren Buck and Cheyenne Boatwright; youngest beloved great grand daughter, Cambria Mobley. He will also be missed by a large extended family and caring in-laws, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. Tim loved listening to classical music and was an avid supporter of the Charlotte Symphony, He enjoyed reading history and his favourite authors Winston Churchill and Irvin Stone. He had the chance to travel to Europe, China, Japan, and there was always another place on the horizon he wanted to visit. He had a love for cooking and making new recipes; he was a very adventurous cook. His family was his audience and he loved Telling jokes and stories. He loved laughing, being with his family, having fun family dinners, and enjoyed being with friends from his church. His favourite comics were Get fuzzy and Mother Goose and Grim. Tim touched the lives of the people who were closest to him. He was known as the man with the knowledge. Almost any question could be answered with wisdom and good advice. He was a greeter at church and with his smile and generosity; he maintained a sense of humour.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at 7PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 234 North Sharon Amity Road Charlotte NC.28211. McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel has taken care of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be sent to the wonderful people who help the homeless at Urban Ministry Centre, 945 N.College Street, Charlotte, NC, 28206. Donations are accepted online. Please note in Memory of John T. Hartness.
