John Walton Hill, III, 62, was born October 28, 1954 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He went to be with Jesus on Friday, March 17, 2017. All who knew him, know that he put God, family, friends, and anyone in need before himself. He was a successful businessman who owned 28 mattress stores and was a commercial real estate developer. He had recently retired, and was enjoying spending time with his family, especially his wife. John was a big kid at heart and loved (toys), mostly because he wanted his kids and grandkids around as much as possible. He also loved spending time with his sweet animals. He made a huge impact on so many lives and had a way of making everyone he met feel welcome and like they were a part of the family.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life of 43 years, Kathy Bryant Hill, of Denver, North Carolina. He had a very special bond with his mother, Shirley Nordman Hill of Matthews, North Carolina. His four children Jennifer Sciolino and husband John, John W. Hill IV and wife Kelly, Natalie Walker and husband Paul, and Meredith Bishop and husband Shannon meant the world to him. His nine grandchildren Alex, Parker, and Paige Sciolino, Gracie and John Wyatt Hill, Skyler and Davis Walker, and Blakely Devine and Blythe Bishop brought him so much joy. He was very close with siblings Cathy Hill Cook, Barry Hill, Susan Hill Butler and husband Mark, and David Hill. His godparents were Don and Sue Price. He is preceded in death by his father John Walton Hill, Jr.
He met his wife when he was only seventeen and they were married a year later. There was an instant special connection between them and the two were inseparable from the moment they met. They enjoyed spending time traveling back and forth between the beach and mountains and also flying his plane and boating together. His family was precious to him and he would do anything in the world for them.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church located at 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, North Carolina with Dr. Joe B. Brown and Rev. John Harrill officiating and Verne Pfeiffer soloist. The family will receive friends at the church between 10:30am and 12:00pm. A service to celebrate his life will follow at the church. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park immediately after service.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Cook, Matthew Cook, Landon Hill, Foster Hill, Sterling Hill, Dyson Butler, Randy Bryant, Chris Bryant, and Scott Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Palmer Hill, Ledger Hill, Scott Bailey, Herb Bailey, Mark Rowe, and Paul Walker, Sr.
In lieu of flowers it would be an honor to carry out his wishes to donate to UNICEF, an organization that feeds children of the world. We were looking through his phone and on March 5, he had been researching this organization to donate to. Another organization that our family holds dear is the American Heart Association.
“Create in me a clean heart, Oh God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
