Joyce Marilyn Eickmeyer, 91, formerly of Baldwin, Long Island and Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on June 24, 2025 following a brief illness, during which time she received continual love and support from her family. Joyce was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and grew up in Queens, NY. She was predeceased in 1981 by her husband of 25 years, Ed "Ike" Eickmeyer, as well as by her mother Esther Ellman Millard, her father Herbert S. Millard, and sister Carol Greenwald.
Joyce graduated from Forest Hills High School and married Ike in 1952. They married at the Taft Hotel in Manhattan, danced to their song, "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" and honeymooned in the Poconos. They lived in the Rego Park neighborhood of Queens until moving to the suburban town of Baldwin, NY where they raised their three children Lynn (Wayne) Geist, Evelyn (Jose' Quinones) Eickmeyer-Quinones and Ed (Jean) Eickmeyer, and celebrated life with a wonderful group of neighbors. Joyce was active on the Bay Colony Association board and both Joyce and Ike were active members at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, participating as Sunday school teachers. She lost the love of her life to heart disease in 1981.
Joyce was very proud of her career, first as a secretary at a women's clinic and then as the Assistant Purchasing Manager at the then South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside New York. Later in life Joyce became active with the Democratic Party, helping to elect Senator Chuck Schumer to the Senate. She continued being interested in current events and could talk politics with the best of them.
Moving to the Carolinas to be closer to her grandchildren Jennifer Eickmeyer, Lauren (Ben)Yeagley and James (Riley Thomas) Eickmeyer - Joyce was enamored by her great-granddaughters Penelope and Lydia Yeagley. Joyce was committed to her church, Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Hill and endeared herself to her fellow parishioners for speaking up and speaking out. Among her fondest memories are the family Thanksgivings spent at Fripp Island on the South Carolina coast.
Towards the end of her life Joyce lived with her son and dear daughter-in-law Jean Eickmeyer. The family was assisted by hospice RN Stephanie and Social Worker Chantel of VIA Healthcare Partners in Charlotte, NC, and the family is forever indebted for their compassion and guidance.
