Kenneth Monroe Bridges, Jr. of Matthews, NC, died at his home in Matthews Glen on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Ken was born in Charlotte on May 9, 1930 to Kenneth Monroe Bridges, Sr. and Susie Belle Daniel Bridges.
Ken was a man of unwavering integrity, thoroughly devoted to his family and his faith. Ken was an active member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church his entire life. As an adult, Ken and his wife Betty were enthusiastic participants in the John Calvin Class. Ken routinely attended Sunday services with his family, and served as both Deacon and Elder. Later in life, he volunteered to manage the sound and video equipment for the numerous weddings directed by Betty. He leaves a legacy of commitment and devotion to MPPC.
A native of Charlotte, Ken was a graduate of Central High School and attended North Carolina State University. He retired in 2005 as President of Glasgow-Bridges, a company he co-founded with Robert Glasgow in 1969. He started his career with Old Dominion Box Company.
Ken is survived by many who loved him deeply: his wife of 63 years, Eva Elizabeth "Betty" Whitsett Bridges; his sister Margaret Francis "Peggy" Maxwell; his three children, Kenneth Monroe Bridges III (Kate), Elizabeth Bridges Byrum (Brad), and Jerre Stratton Bridges (Aylin); nine grandchildren, Trevor Byrum (Kelly), Katie Kennedy (Trey), Dylan Byrum (Lori), Carter Byrum, Kyle Byrum, Caldwell Bridges, Beth Bridges, Jack Bridges, and Ryan Bridges; and two great-grandchildren, Shepherd Byrum and Thomas Kennedy.
The funeral and reception will be held at Myers Park Presbyterian Church on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
The family wishes to thank the amazingly dedicated nurses and staff of Hospice, the ministers and volunteers of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, and Ken's many loyal friends, family members and caregivers for their unwavering support as Ken's health declined.
