

Ken was born on September 13, 1936, in Mooresville, North Carolina, to Eugene Cherry and Mary Ester Wright Cherry. He grew up in the Enochville Community of Rowan County and spent his entire life in North Carolina.
Ken dedicated his career to education and service. He taught mathematics in high schools in Cabarrus, Stanly, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Counties for 20 years. He then began his second career with Duke Power. After retiring from Duke, Ken returned to the classroom, teaching at Providence High School in Charlotte. He loved sharing his knowledge and had a true passion for teaching math.
Ken was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed working in his yard, playing with his dog Louie, and spending time in his garage woodworking. Known for his handy skills, Ken could fix almost anything. Ken had a passion for farm tractors and knew just about everything there was to know about them. Every August, he looked forward to the annual Rock Spring Camp Meeting, where he could be found at the Cherry family tent, enjoying Christian fellowship and tradition.
Ken had a quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and a kind heart. He loved his family deeply and was always there for them. His life was guided by his faith, and he was a devoted member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Cherry; daughters Teresa (David) Mills of Bluff City, TN, and Pam Cherry of Bristol, TN; six grandchildren: Sara Gooden of Bluffton, SC; Ashley (Jason) Puckett of Kingsport, TN; Michael (Tia) Rutter of Bristol, TN; Amanda (Thaddeus) Danson of Henrico, VA; Shannon (David) Martin of Knoxville, TN; and Andrew Mills of Knoxville, TN; and ten great-grandchildren: Marcus Gooden, Rylee Phipps, Jensen Puckett, Maxwell Gooden, Solomon Rutter, Mitchell Mills, Ezekiel Rutter, Tobias Rutter, Eleanor Danson, and Thaddeus Danson. He is also survived by his brother John R. (June) Cherry of Denver, NC.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, at 1:30 p.m. in the Magnolia Chapel at Matthews Glen, Matthews, NC. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Burial will take place on Monday, September 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Presbyterian Church, 8210 Unity Church Rd, Denver, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203. Ken’s legacy of love, faith, and kindness will be forever cherished by his family and all who knew him.
