Born June 19, 1962 in Charlotte, he was a son of the late Oscar Plyler, Ret. Battalion Chief for Charlotte Fire Department and Edna White Plyler Roberts of Pineville, NC. Following graduation from South Mecklenburg High School, he furthered his education at Wingate College (now Wingate University) where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services. His career included working his way in 17 years from line employee to Assistant Manager of the Rides and Grounds Services to a permanent position in Rides Maintenance at Paramount’s Carowinds. From there he worked at various local companies as warehouse or management. At the time of his death, he worked for Allied Fittings, in his 15th year of employment.
Ken’s family was very important to him, whether they were his wife, parents, brother, pets or extended family. One of the joys of Ken’s life was reconnecting or staying connected to friends and family face-to-face and through social media. Ken was much loved by many and known by several names such as: Ken, Kenny, KP, Melf and Chief. He positively impacted so many people throughout his life that he probably wasn’t even aware of the volume or depth.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years Michelle Nield Plyler who he met when they both worked at Carowinds, his mother Edna Plyler Roberts, brother Mike Plyler, aunt Wilma Neely, niece Mandy Plyler Hair (Tripp) and nephew Matt Plyler (Amanda), step-brothers Doug (Cindy) and David Crabb, cousins Sherri Neely Gamble (Vic), Jeff Neely (Julie), Teresa White Broome (Larry), Maria White Nunn, numerous cousins, great-nieces and nephews, extended family and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his father Oscar in 2017, uncle Leon Neely in 2012, stepmother Miriam Plyler in 2011 and cousin Tammy White Drozd in 2009.
A celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, December 4th, 2021 in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel at 10500 Park Road. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM.
