Kensley was a skilled carpenter by trade, known for his craftsmanship, steady hands, and unwavering work ethic. Through wood and tools, he built not only homes and structures, but also a life grounded in integrity, strength, and dedication. His work reflected his character—dependable, impressive, and beautiful.
Above all, Kensley was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. His legacy lives on through the generations he nurtured, supported, and inspired. He led his family with wisdom, strength, and love, always placing family at the center of his life.
He was reunited in glory with his beloved parents, Sylvanus and Vilda Bennett; his siblings, Aldith (Keith), Oswald (Vivette), Aston, Altimont, Laurell (Carlton), Lileath, Cecil (Yvonne), Stanley; his former wife, Violet Woodcock; his daughter, Dahlia; his son, Lascelle, and his great-granddaughter, Denesha.
He leaves to celebrate his life and carry forward his legacy: his devoted wife, Fay C. Bennett; his siblings, Keith (Joyce), Eula (Lloyd), Vera, Olga, and Iona; his children are Karen (Dwayne), Peter, Frank, Eustace (Vylmary), Michael, Kathleen, Mark (Danielle), and Kensley II (Alida), Thomas (Tiffany).
His grandchildren are Charles, Chariene, Charamone (Shavanno), Careo, Carvon, Dereka, Deangelia, D’Jone, Anise (D'Vaughn), Kahlil, Alana Rae, Justine, Sydney, Kevin, Keith, Alicia, Anthony (Jade), Anaya (Adam), Patrick, Elijah, Ezekial, Jada-Faye, Mateo, Hilary, Claire, Vaughn, Jennifer, Beverly, Kathleen, and Noelanni.
His great-grandchildren are Charles, Tenia, Javier, Aria, Caranique, Alicia, Latareo, Camaya, Careo Jr., Triniti, Charleston, Charlesia, Kailey, Carlos, Vince, Gabriel, Samuel, Angel, Bayli, Ja’Daj, Ja’Dal, Ja’De, Adelynn, Aurelia, Aeliana, Kelice, Keon, Kelsie, Harper, Hailey Rose, Joseline Amaya, Nathaniel, Jasmine, Leo, Kahmal, Azizza, Kenji, and Kamari.
His great-great-grandchildren are Tamari, Hazel, and Careo III.
He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever treasure his wisdom, his humor, and his unwavering love.

A committal service will follow at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212, on March 7, 2026, beginning at 3:00 pm.
