

Mr. Long, 92, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at his home with his daughter by his side.
He was born January 8, 1920 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, a son of the late Thomas Theron Long and Mildred Hollifield Long. Mr. Long served in the Signal Corp in the South Pacific with The United States Army during World War II. He received his Masters Degree from North Carolina State where he later served as an assistant Professor and worked as an electrical engineer with Duke Power, now Duke Energy for more than 25 years. Mr. Long was a Fellow of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers)
The Long family will greet friends Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Long is survived by his loving daughter, Alicia Long of Charlotte; his two sisters: Lois Long Andrews and Elizabeth Long both of Concord, NC; and a daughter-in-law, Kathi McBlief of Garner, NC and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in remembrance of Mr. Leonard W. Long to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
