Lillian "Polly" B. Greene

Lillian Louise "Polly" Black Greene, 94, of Denver, NC went to be with her Lord on August 14, 2024. She was born in Denver, NC, resided in Charlotte, NC for over 50 years then moved back to Denver, NC in 2008 when her husband, Tommie A. Greene passed away.

She was dearly loved by her family and friends. She was the daughter of William Sinclair Black and Velmer Viola Aiken Black. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 6 brothers: Edgar Eugene Black, William Thomas Black, W.C. Black, Jr., Avery Tilden Black, Dariel Gray Black, Norman Debrell Black and 4 sisters: Beatrice Jane Ryan, Willie Mae Perkins, Agnus Gertrude Perkins, Annie Eugenia Luckey.

Polly is survived by three daughters, Janice Sanders (Tom) of Denver, NC, Doris Cody (Doug) of Denver NC and Sylva, NC and Clara Sain (Todd) of Charlotte, NC; known as Grandma to 4 granddaughters, Adrien Sanders, Carla S. Caccia, Julia C. Utke, Caitlin C. Powell; and Grandma Polly to 6 great grandchildren: Megan Harrill, Luke Harrill, Gus Caccia, Oliver Utke, Norah Utke and baby girl Powell due in November. She is also survived by one brother, Larry Liveo Black and one sister, Virginia Catherine Dowdle and many nieces and nephews.

While residing in Charlotte Polly worked for various insurance companies and was a Girl Scout leader. She also volunteered for many years with the East Lincoln Optimist Club’s Fiddlers Convention. She and Tommie loved camping, beginning in the 1960’s with their daughters and then joining the Good Sam Cherries camping group when they retired.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of Carolina Caring (Hospice) and Abernethy Laurels for the wonderful care you gave to mom.
