

Charlotte - Lucy Dorn Almand Harrison, a resident of the Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015. She was born in Atlanta, Ga. in 1917, the youngest of three daughters of Lucy Dorn Almand and Alonzo Evans Almand.
Mrs. Harrison was raised in Buffalo, N.Y., and was a graduate of the University of Michigan. She had been a resident of Charlotte since 1950, and was a member of Myers Park Baptist Church, where she taught in the church's through-the-week kindergarten for its first 10 years.
Mrs. Harrison was married for 27 years to the late Leonard K. Harrison. She is survived by daughters, Dorothy T. Roller of Bel Air, Md., and Gail Thomson of Arlington, Va.; stepson, Kenneth W. Harrison of Shelby, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Christopher D. Roller of Fairfax, Va., Mark C. Roller of Spring Lake, Mich., and Leonard R. Harrison, Sheelagh H. Santoro and Kenneth W. Harrison, all of Shelby. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Angela and Elizabeth Roller; Luke Roller; Laura, Devon, Jonathan and Abigail Harrison; and Jillian, Alberto and Patrick Santoro.
Mrs. Harrison had been a member of the Charlotte Writers Club, American Association of University Women, the Women's Auxiliary of the Hezekiah Alexander House, and the Mecklenburg Historical Association. She loved keeping a detailed travel diary, telling stories and writing them to share with friends and family. She particularly enjoyed Margaret Bigger's writing course for seniors.
The family will greet friends from 1:00-1:45 pm on Thursday, April 9th at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, followed by a service at 2 pm. Burial will take place in Sharon Memorial Park, Monroe Road, Charlotte.
