Lura Riggins Baker

Lura Riggins Baker, age 99 of Charlotte, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 7, 2025. Born in Union County, NC, she was the daughter of John Pearl Riggins and Ruby Gayle. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters and by her daughter, Crystal Baker.

She is survived by her loving husband Billy E. Baker of 74 years, and a sister, Joyce Thomas (Keith). Her surviving children are daughter, Denise Weaver (Allen), and sons, Nelson Baker (Nancy) and Carl Baker (Linda).

Lura was a proud grandmother to Cara Brower (Jimmy), Mark Weaver (Mandy), Carl Baker (Candy), Steven Baker (Maddie), Lauren George (Bryan) and Ashley Parker (Harrison) and her Great-grandchildren, Logan Brower, Caleb Brower, Lydia Weaver, Nathan Weaver, Hayden Baker, Banks George and two on the way.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ralph Baker (Peggy) and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Lura was a faithful military wife for 18 years. When her husband retired, they moved back to Charlotte where she worked in billing for Ivey’s Department Store and then Naturalizer Shoes at Eastland Mall.

She was a devout Christian and was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church for many years. Lura is currently a member of First Baptist Matthews. She loved traveling with the Seniors on church trips and loved mountain, beach and Florida trips with family.

Her family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Charlotte Assisted Living and to the nurses and staff (especially Annabelle) at Via Health Partners of Charlotte for the care, support and compassion during her illness.
