Charlotte – Betty Parker, 87, passed away on June 16, 2015 at Pineville Rehabilitation. She was born on October 8, 1927 in Charlotte, a daughter of the late Mary McDow Sawyer and Dallas Dasker Sawyer.
She was a graduate of Harding High and UNC Greensboro. She went on to become Vice President of First Federal Savings and Loan, the first woman Vice President in their history. She was a member of Avondale Presbyterian Church, and sang in the church choir. She loved to play the piano and sing.
Betty was a gentle soul with a loving heart. She was very neat and organized. She was devoted to her family and friends, especially to her late husband, Clyburn.
She is survived by her nieces, Marjorie P. Lewis of Stanley, NC, Pat Sharpton and Mary Beth, both of Asheville, NC, Chris Zuern of Derby, KS; nephew, Dallas Sawyer of Wichita, KS; and cousin, John McDow of Wilmington, NC. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clyburn H. Parker; sisters, Mary Harriet Sawyer Preston, Polly Sawyer Hickling; and brother, Dallas Dasker Sawyer, Jr.
The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, June 19, 2015 in Harry & Bryant’s “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, with Reverend John Earl officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm prior to the service. Entombment in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private.
