Margaret saw each day as an adventure waiting to happen. You could have called her on any given day to find out that she just finished jumping out of a plane, driving a race car, floating in an anti-gravity machine, or practicing her aim at the local gun range. She loved testing her limits and creating memories with those closest to her. Most of all, she loved to appreciate life for all it had to offer.
Margaret never knew how to do anything small. Her children’s birthdays were national holidays in her world, and they were celebrated with the same levels of enthusiasm and expectation. She had one of the loudest voices in any crowd she had ever been in and liked to provide the largest gifts for just about any occasion. She always wanted the fastest cars she could drive and to go on the most exciting vacations.
She excelled at planning, doing math, cooking soul food, and making people laugh. She had an immeasurable amount of love for her children Destinee Dawson (14), Matthew Gbozah Jr. (10), and Amiyah Gbozah (5). She loved the city of Charlotte, although she had about 13,411 complaints about it. She worshipped God and thanked him often.
Margaret was never fake. She would tell you what she thought you needed to hear but would also save some room to make sure you heard some of the things you wanted to hear. She was blunt and direct, sharp, and quick witted. She was an independent thinker and leader. She was a free spirit.
Margaret could be a walking contradiction in the best ways. She hated politicians, but she made it a point to vote and protest anyway, actively engaging in doing the work to build a better world for her children. She knew some people didn’t like her, but she prayed for them anyway. She’d be saving up for her next big adventure, but actively giving to her friends and community. That’s just the kind of person she was.
Margaret taught a lot of lessons. Take care of your people. Love without conditions and expectations. Expect the best but prepare for even better. Never take life too seriously. Take people for their word. Be present. Invest in the dreams of others. Call people up, don’t call them out. Believe in a better tomorrow.
Because of Margaret’s undying loyalty to her friends and family, she will have a semi-private service open to those who were fortunate enough to experience her love firsthand. The service will be held at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 11AM to 1PM.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family asks that you do something generous for someone you know who could really use it. This is something she did regularly and was without a doubt her favorite thing to do. Her family would also like to thank everyone who has shared pictures, videos, and stories to celebrate her life.
Finally, the family asks that in honor of Margaret you do something new and exciting at least once this year. It would have made her so incredibly happy to have inspired you to create a new memory.
