Marie Dowd Latimer

Charlotte - Mrs. Latimer, 89, of The Cypress of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013. She was born November 9, 1923 in Charlotte to the late William Carey Dowd, Jr. and Ann Rogers Dowd.

Marie attended Central High School in Charlotte, Mary Baldwin College, and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1945. She was a charter member of Myers Park Baptist Church, and a member of the Mecklenburg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifetime summer resident of Linville, NC, member of Myers Park Country Club, and a past president of the NC Senior Women's Golf Association.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ben Latimer. She is survived by her children, Walter Bennett Latimer, Jr. (Susan) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, William Clayton Latimer of Newland, NC, and Carey Dowd Latimer (Barbara) of Hickory, NC. Marie is also survived by her grandchildren, Graham Latimer, Bennett Latimer, Stephen Latimer, and Patrick Latimer, and great-grandchildren, Mac, Sam, Liza, and Savannah Rose Latimer.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28th in the Chapel of Harry and Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
